Summary
This study will evaluate digital transcriptions of letters written by re-incarcerated individuals who previously participated in the Best Chance prisoner reentry program, as well as digital transcriptions of phone calls between a Best Chance employee and previous participants who have not been re-incarcerated. This data will be analyzed for the presence of specific constructs believed to be associated with criminal desistance and recidivism. Specifically, the study aims to determine whether personal or social elements, or a combination, played the biggest role in preceding desistance or recidivating.
