Summary
The objective of the present study is to obtain advanced lung cancer patients’ in-depth feedback on our revised measure of patient expectations, goals, and priorities for symptom management.
Description
This feedback will help to ensure that the measure’s content and language are understandable and acceptable to this population. To this end, cognitive interviewing, a qualitative method applied to the development of questionnaires, will be employed. Cognitive interviews focus on the ways in which small groups of tested individuals mentally process and respond to questionnaire items. The interviews rely on intensive verbal probing of participants by a trained interviewer. This approach is designed to identify otherwise unobservable problems with item comprehension and other cognitive processes that can be addressed through question rewording, reordering, or more extensive instrument revision.
