The purpose of this study is to compare different radiation treatment plans for patients with liver cancer, such as hepatocellular carcinoma or cholangiocarcinoma. This study investigates whether adding specific imaging scans can help reduce radiation exposure to healthy liver tissue. A routine treatment plan will be compared with a plan that includes additional imaging using a HIDA scan and an MRI scan.
Participants will undergo two types of treatment planning. One will use the standard procedures, while the other will include extra imaging scans. The HIDA scan helps visualize liver function, and the MRI provides detailed images of liver structures. By comparing these plans, the study aims to determine if the additional scans can spare healthy liver tissue from radiation.
- Who can participate: Adults with primary liver cancer, such as hepatocellular carcinoma or cholangiocarcinoma, and a Child-Turcotte-Pugh score of 7 or less may be eligible. Participants should not be pregnant or planning to become pregnant, and must have no more than 3 lesions with a total diameter of 6 cm or less. Previous radiation treatment to the upper abdomen and certain medical conditions may exclude participation.
