The purpose of this study is to investigate personal exposure to a group of semi-volatile chemicals in children of Alaska Native communities. Semi-volatile chemicals are substances that can easily become gases at room temperature. This study focuses on semi-volatile organic compounds, specifically flame retardants and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, which are chemicals used in various products to prevent fires and are found in pollution.
In this study, participants will wear a silicone wristband that helps monitor exposure to these chemicals. The wristband collects data on the chemicals present in the environment, providing researchers with information about what children are exposed to in their daily lives.
- Who can participate: Children of a certain age range living in Alaska Native and other communities are eligible to participate.
