Description
HIPAA guidelines require IRB approval for the creation of a database for the purposes of recruitment. Patients responding by phone to advertisements posted by our laboratory will be advised of the nature of the available studies. Subjects wishing to participate will be asked for a small amount of protected health information (Name, Phone Number, Address, Social Security Number, HIV Status, Smoking Status, Medications, and if HIV positive, CD4 Count and Viral Load); this information will be used to prescreen volunteers to determine eligibility for our open studies. All information collected will be stored in a secure database with access limited to members of the research team.
