Summary
The purpose of this study is to investigate whether tea supplements improve cognitive and vessel health, and reduce oxidative stress in women.
Description
This research is conducted as a pilot study to examine whether acute consumption of green tea extract affects working memory and reactive hyperemic responses in adult women as measures of cognitive function and peripheral vascular function, respectively, and, if the responses are related to the protective effects of the supplement on markers of oxidative stress, including damaged DNA (8-OH dG and DNA strand breaks) and damaged lipids or resulting byproducts (malondialdehyde, isoprostanes, 4-hydroxynonenol). In addition, the effect of the supplement on the body?s protective enzyme systems (superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase) will be measured to help explain the results of the oxidative stress biomarkers.
