Summary

Extensive previous research has suggested that when an individual engages in a task that requires self-control, they perform worse on a second task requiring self-control. This theory, termed ego-depletion, outlines that performance on the second task requiring self-control decreases because self-control is a finite resource. Although this effect has been replicated over the years, new replication research suggests that the ego depletion effect may not exist, or at least not be as strong of an effect as suggested over the years. This current research is investigating this claim and is part of a larger registered replication research study examining this.
