The purpose of this study is to determine if there is a difference in outcomes between liberal transfusion and conservative transfusion. This study investigates the effects of different blood transfusion strategies on patients who have suffered orthopedic trauma. Orthopedic trauma refers to severe injuries to the bones and joints, often requiring surgical intervention.

Participants in this study will be assigned to one of two study arms: those receiving a liberal transfusion strategy and those receiving a conservative transfusion strategy. A liberal transfusion strategy involves providing blood transfusions more freely, while a conservative approach involves stricter criteria for transfusions.

  • Who can participate: Individuals who have suffered any orthopedic trauma may be eligible to participate. However, those who are currently pregnant, have a known heart condition, or have been diagnosed with Sickle Cell Anemia are not eligible.
  • Study details: Participants will be involved in either a liberal or conservative transfusion strategy. A liberal transfusion strategy provides blood transfusions more freely, whereas a conservative strategy uses stricter criteria for transfusions.
