Summary
Despite the recent successes of laser treatment for hypertrophic scars, there is currently no satisfactory understanding of the short and long term microstructure and mechanical changes of scar tissues due to laser treatment. The technique has evolved rapidly, yet, patient selection and parameter determination for treatment remains indefinite. Therefore, gaining a better understanding of the mechanics and mechanobiology of this process through modeling and experimentation could result in quantitative tools to decide optimal treatment strategies.
