Development of a Social Complexity Risk Factor Scale to Screen for Poor Outcomes in Patients with Cystic Fibrosis

Summary
Using Indiana Medicaid data and responses from a patient/caregiver survey, social risk factors will be identified that are important to the CF population. The insurance databases contain patient level data that supplements other data sources, such as the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Patient Registry. The relationship between the social risk factors identified and health outcomes will be evaluated to better understand which risk factors have the strongest influence on outcomes. After the social complexity risk factors are defined, they will be analyzed to see how they individually and together are associated with outcomes. This information will be used in the future to create a social complexity risk factor scale that will identify patients at risk for poor clinical outcomes and increased health care use. Such a scale will inform future interventions targeted to a high risk population.
