Summary

First generation college students have been found to perform more poorly, when compared to continuing generation students, when the selectivity of a climate was highlighted (Jury, Smeding, & Darnon, 2015). However, little is currently know about the role that mindset plays in perceptions of selectivity. Given that mindset have been shown to affect motivation (Murphy & Dweck, 2016), it is important to understand how mindset may affect perceptions of selectivity in academic contexts.
