This study investigates ways to prevent type 2 diabetes in young people. Type 2 diabetes is a condition that affects how the body processes sugar. The goal is to create a program that doctors and community groups can use to help prevent this condition in children.
Participants will be involved in using a modified version of the ENCOURAGE Healthy Families curriculum. This curriculum is designed to educate families on healthy habits to lower the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
- Who can participate: Children who are overweight or obese with a BMI greater than the 85th percentile can participate. They should also have a family history of type 2 diabetes or belong to a racial or ethnic minority.
- Study details: Participants will engage with the ENCOURAGE Healthy Families curriculum, which focuses on healthy living to prevent diabetes.
