The purpose of this study is to find out if music play activities can decrease distress and improve the quality of life for parents and young children during stem cell transplants for cancer. Stem cell transplant is a procedure used to replace damaged or destroyed bone marrow with healthy bone marrow stem cells. This study also examines if this program can help parents and young children cope better with the treatment.
Participants in the study will engage in music play activities designed to support them during the acute phase of the stem cell transplant. These activities are part of the AME+P intervention, which is being refined and tested for its feasibility and acceptability in this context.
- Who can participate: Children undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) for malignant or non-malignant conditions can participate. One parent must be present, and participants must speak English and not have significant cognitive impairments.
- Study details: Participants will engage in music play activities as part of the AME+P intervention to support them during the transplant. A parent must be present for all sessions.
