Summary
My Purpose in this arts based qualitative research is to understand the nature and aims of art therapeutic practices and explore ways they might transform art education. I seek to push back at, and disrupt contemporary art education discourses and standards that do not currently embrace studio arts unique potential to engender personal expression and self-advocacy that moves toward healing. To accomplish this I will analyze the practice of a contemporary artist/art therapist with whom I will work as a participant observer.
