This study examines teachers and students understanding of STEM problem-based learning using their lens of: a sense of place; cultural funds of knowledge; and identities at work, and how kindergarteners use ipads in a problem-based STEM unit. The study will also explore what kindergarten students understand about reading nonfiction text with visual images. Three contexts: urban school district, and two small urban districts.
