Summary
The purpose of this study is to find drinks available at your local grocery store which could help to prevent kidney stones forming without causing any health issues if these drinks are consumed every day.
Description
We want to see if commercial low calorie orange juice beverages can raise the concentration of citrate in urine. We want to see if urine becomes less acidic when low calorie orange juice is consumed on a daily basis. Elevation of urinary citrate and alkalization of urine can reduce the risk for kidney stone formation. We want to make sure that drinking more than single serving size of low calorie OJ in a 24 hour period doesn't result in side effects including: gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and weight gain, decrease in quality of life.
