Database of Patients Undergoing Kidney and Adrenal Surgery

Summary
Since the late nineties, laparoscopic adrenalectomy became a standard of care for treating benign and adrenal masses while providing all the benefits minimally invasive surgery. Moreover, several authors reported several advantages of the laparoscopic adrenalectomy compared to open surgery in cases of functional benign adrenal lesion. Additionally, feasibility and efficiency of the laparoscopic approach for the treatment of malignant disease has gained credibility. The purpose of this database is to review the outcomes as well as perioperative parameters of patients who underwent the procedure. Kidney surgery has also undergone considerable change since the early 90?s. More surgeries are being performed via the laparoscopic approach and patients spend less time in the hospital and away from work. We plan to retrospectively review all of the patients who have undergone adrenalectomy or nephrectomy at Indiana University Medical Center and construct a database that is going to be used to follow the patients to determine late outcomes such as recurrence or adrenal function. Additional patients will be added to the database following their surgeries to further assess these outcomes.
