Personality Inferences from Food Choices and Self-Control Exertion

  • STATUS

Updated on 19 February 2024

Summary

The current research will examine both observer and actor effects of self-control exertion. Specifically, we predict that people who save lots of money, eat healthy food, and are timely will be seen as more competent and moral than people who blow their budget, eat unhealthy food, and suffer from poor time management. Conversely, people who choose to indulge will be seen as more warm than the people who choose not to. In addition to these "observer" effects, we will test for actor effects such that people who are motivated to appear warm (competent/moral) will be more likely to give in to their vices (exert self-control).
